Sketching helps me to develop as a designer in a myriad of ways.
Using 2D- a flat piece of paper and a pen I can recreate 3D form in a plane to understand the mechanics of this hair dryer. It helps me to see where and how interlocking parts connect and move together.
Sketching is a quick way to show how a product works despite language barriers.
The way you sketch also conveys the "feel" of the product. It can be loose and colorful to establish a feeling, or allude to nature or skin.
Most importantly, sketching is a way for me to communicate my ideas.
